The calendar
A year in northern Michigan.
Frost decides when the ground can be opened. The months are a sample, and the crew adjusts them to the spring.
| What you do | What we do | |
|---|---|---|
| Winter, December to March | What you doWalk the lot with us, choose the mechanical room and tell us how the house runs in January. | What we doSite visits, heat loss, design, permits and orders. The drilling partner books spring slots. |
| Spring, April to May | What you doDecide where the lawn can be disturbed and show us the well, septic and drains. | What we doAs the frost leaves, bores and trenches open and loops go in, then are tested. |
| Summer, June to August | What you doKeep the old system running until switch-over, and clear the way to the mechanical room. | What we doHeat pump set, loop connected, flushed and filled. Lake loops go in when the water is calm. |
| Fall, September to November | What you doKeep the fall visit, when we read loop temperatures and flows. | What we doLast installs before freeze-up, then start-up and the first loop readings. |
One thing to know
Why a spring slot is worth asking for early.
Rigs book up
The drilling partner's spring calendar fills from the winter before. A site visit in February keeps a slot open.
Frost is not the enemy
A loop is buried below it. What frost limits is the machinery on top of it, and sometimes the pipe fusing.
Pick a season to start in.
Tell us when you'd like the house on the loop and we'll work back from there.
